- MOODY: Grim reapers in legend have their associations with dark color palettes and Reaper himself is no exception. It just so happens that this dour form of self-expression matches with his regular macabre sense of humor and bouts of melancholy. His sense of ennui after three hundred years of paperwork and death is well-defined and that same long life gives him the ability to quickly lose himself in a tendency to overthink. Very little outside of his usual routine is allowed willingly into his existence, so when his worldview is challenged or his lonesomeness disturbed he tends to react unpredictably and immaturely (grumpily refusing interactions or panicking, for starters).
- SINCERE: For someone tasked with subtlety and maintaining a shroud of secrecy around not just his profession but his abnormal lifespan and habits, Reaper is honest almost to a fault. At best he manages to evade questions – sometimes for weeks, as is shown to be the case when he’s asked his name – and at worst he gives a straightforward and frank response even when it’s clear that it isn’t in his best interest. When given a choice between lying to protect one of his friends and telling the truth even though it might hurt them emotionally? He chooses the latter. Furthermore, he makes little attempt to hide any powerful emotions that he experiences. While this is rare thanks to a long existence ensuring he’s not often surprised by much, if he’s sad, happy, disappointed, or even envious he will outright admit to it (or maybe cry a couple times in the span of a single episode; this is a drama).
- NAIVE: Perhaps it’s due to his extended exposure to a bleak and (no pun intended) grim profession, but Reaper is socially trapped in a state of arrested development. He does not stay aware of human trends, and is in fact so far behind the times technologically that in 2016 he has next to no comprehension of a cellphone. He hasn’t prepared a false name for himself, doesn’t have a story to provide when questioned about his work, and relies on his considerable powers to get him out of trouble when he does something awkward or out of touch with reality. He also easily falls prey to deceptions (whether supernatural or not) and has extremely poor deductive skills when given all the information he needs to draw a conclusion. Sure, it doesn’t help that most of the conclusions he has to draw are depressing and death-related, but that doesn’t excuse his horse blinders.
- Can briefly halt or slow time
- Cryo magic (can freeze things easily)
- Light absorption (can darken a space when he’s in a bad mood)
- Teleportation over short distances
- Power of suggestion (can influence humans with direct commands)
- Memory loss (part of power of suggestion, he can order people to forget certain events or interactions)
- Past life awareness (can see a person’s past life when he touches them)
- Cosmic awareness/perception (can see supernatural creatures and incidents)
- Increased durability/strength/senses (he is highly resistant to damage and possesses superhuman strength as well as unnaturally keen senses)
- Telekinesis (is shown to levitate and move small objects such as knives and salt shakers)
- Telepathy (can project his thoughts into the minds of others but cannot read minds; if he is dealing with another telepath, he can carry on full back and forth conversations)
- Immortality (as someone only tentatively alive, he does not age)
- Invisibility (as a result of his hat; whenever he wears it he is no longer visible to non-supernatural beings)

Disposition:
Suitability: Reaper, first and foremost, is going to be comically baffled by the fact that he’s now more or less out of a job. Back home his existence is entirely defined by the souls he needs to shepherd from one life to the next and he’ll finally have an opportunity to discover a little bit about himself as he’s forced into a new career path. He’s withdrawn and this will force him to come out of his shell a little as he has to fend for himself in a way he never previously has. With regard to his new powers, he will take his sweet time noticing them (since ice magic is something to which he’s already accustomed) but once he learns that he has any kind of healing magic he will at first be disturbed and then too curious and excited for his own good. As a grim reaper he’s used to death and injury – being able to take part in helping people before it’s too late will be extremely gratifying for him. Finally, Synchrony will absolutely be a major challenge for him. Touch for a grim reaper is a sensitive subject (since it forces him to see a person’s past life) and he has little to no experience in forming lasting friendships not necessitated by his work. It’ll be major getting to develop him past this point and getting him comfortable enough to trust others; until then he’ll be doing the bare minimum to avoid Null.
Condition upon arrival: As a grim reaper, he is technically not alive. For a not-alive man, however, he’s healthy and in good working condition.
Abilities:
As a grim reaper of advanced age (let’s be polite) Reaper has a number of abilities. These include the following:
